Matrix eMAR provides the capability to electronically document medications and treatments, as they are administered, while ensuring the accuracy and safety of the dosage and frequency of all resident medications. Other resident care tasks, such as nursing orders and care plan approaches, can also be documented through this system. Matrix eMAR works in conjunction with Matrix Orders, with access to a drug library and real-time updates for new, discontinued, or changed orders. Plus, users have access to the resident's full record, including face sheet, progress notes, vitals and other resident data, should additional information be needed during administration.
As orders are entered, the integrated drug library prompts safety alerts for food/drug interactions, duplicate drug, ingredient or therapy, drug-to-drug and drug-to-condition interactions, as well as geriatric precautions based on user-defined parameters. Frequencies can be defined down to the room level, including support for resident-centered administrations. Required fields ensure no pertinent information is omitted. Notes for tasks, such as pain scales or vitals checks, as well as pre- and post-administration tasks are integrated with the workflow through the order. Communication is shared through Resident Messages, and orders are automatically transmitted to the pharmacy to reduce transcription errors.
In addition, the Matrix eMAR utilizes Work Lists to allow the facility to create assignments for specific units or rooms with user-defined flow sheets, to help staff adapt their procedures to the paperless system. Once the setup is complete, orders flow to the Work Lists, simplifying the medication/treatment administration process.
Matrix eMAR is designed to completely replace the paper administration process, eliminating the cumbersome binders and time-consuming preparation required to reconcile the current month to the next month. Pre-administration preparation to tag the medications that are due is also eliminated. Users simply select a Work List, and the appropriate residents are displayed, color-coded by order status to help reduce late or missed administrations and ensure follow-up tasks are completed. When a resident is selected, all applicable orders appear, complete with dosage, frequency, administration notes, date and time last given, and access to 14-day administration history. Within the order, special indicators appear for orders that are due or late, or that require additional tasks for administration (such as apical pulse or blood sugar). Plus, the system automatically prompts for documentation of reasons for late or early administrations, PRN medications, and other follow-up tasks.
The Walk Away function secures the resident record for HIPAA compliance when the user steps away from the med cart to administer medications, and securely resumes the administration process, right where the user left off. Administration is documented, complete with user ID and date/time stamp, with a few clicks of the mouse, or taps of the touch screen device.
Matrix eMAR provides a variety of reporting options, including the standard MAR/TAR reports, compliance auditing and status reports.
